POPAT courses examine and practice the phonological skills that are taught throughout each stage of the programme. This begins at pre-letter phonological awareness level, through to the complex phoneme/grapheme relationships of English orthography.
Training and support is essential to the understanding and successful use of the programme. Consequently, the manuals and materials cannot be purchased alone, they are secondary to the training one needs to use them, and become available throughout the training courses.
The courses themselves are a blend of tutored presentations, workshops and seminars.
give an understanding of the key phonological principles that underpin the structure of each stage of the programme
demonstrate, incorporate practice sessions, and give support at each stage of the programme during workshop sessions
equip trainees with the ability and tools to assess and refine their diagnostic use of POPAT.
They are suitable for:
- whole school/school clusters
- Education Authority Support services
- Health Authority Speech and Language Therapy services.
